Chronic Pain Therapy

Pain is made up of a physical and an emotional component.  The physical aspects of pain will normally heal over time and it may require pain medication and/or physical therapy to resolve.  But it does eventually heal.  Sometimes, however, the pain persists past the time that normal healing should have occurred.

If that pain lasts for 6 months or longer, it’s called CHRONIC PAIN and then the emotional component has a much larger role and must be addressed or else the chronic pain becomes a “runaway train.”  That means it can intensify and persist for years.  The chronic pain can cause anxiety, depression, agitation, frustration and even anger.  And while it’s doing that, the pain gets worse.

It’s called the PAIN ANXIETY- PAIN DEPRESSION CYCLE.  Chronic pain causes anxiety and depression and the anxiety & depression causes more pain.

The GOOD NEWS!!!!   Chronic pain can be treated.  Our goal: reduce or eliminate the pain.  In some cases, we teach our patients how to live comfortably with the pain.  In that case, our goal is to improve the quality of your life.  We address your catastrophic thoughts and we enhance your coping skills. These therapies may also help the patient decrease the amount of pain medication needed, thereby reducing the risks and adverse effects of the drugs.

Addiction to Narcotic Medication: Equally as important is how our treatment addresses the ever increasing addiction to narcotic medication.  By reducing or eliminating the pain, we obviously pre-empt the addiction or contribute to its cure.  We have on our staff a Certified Addictions Professional to help you with that if needed.

We can reduce or eliminate your pain and increase your quality with some of the following treatments:
